Sherpa Update - 08-12-2009
Thank you so much for your prayers for the training last week - it went great!  We had thirty (mostly new) believers come for three days of training.  Half of these came down from the Helambu region.  Many of these had family members who did not know they were coming for this discipleship training or they would have been prohibited from coming.  We trained them in how to share their "story," how to share the good news through story form, a basic, self-feeding method for studying the Word, and some other basic discipleship issues.  These new believers were eager to learn and grow in their faith.  They have been challenged to pass on these things that they have learned.  Please pray for them as they grow and deepen.  Pray for boldness, wisdom, and encouragement in the difficult situations that many of them face.

Please lift up Matt and Raj as they travel up to the northern area of Helambu next week (Monday and Sunday) for follow-up from a trip taken in early June.  Pray as they follow up with those who became believers at that time and pray that a new fellowship can be started from this group of believers.

(Captain) Dr. David Howell and Sheryl
Dr. Howell has been assigned to the 6th Squadron of the 17th Cavalry regiment US Army based at Ft. Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska. After he finishes Chaplainancy    training boot camp he will report on December 12th.  Please continue to pray for Chaplain David and Sheryl as missionaries sent out by our Church.  He serves our Lord and country because you, the members of First Baptist Church Hawthorne believed in him.  The week of October 4 he preached in the field to a group getting ready to graduate boot camp.  15 trusted Christ.  He baptized them on October 11 at the base chapel.  You are a part of God's working in the lives of these soldiers.
